EVP Recorder for Paranormal Investigations

The Paranormal Field Kit EVP Recorder captures investigation audio and keeps it connected to the session where it was recorded. Investigators can start a recording, add markers when something important happens, and review the saved audio without leaving the case record.

It is designed for electronic voice phenomenon sessions, room-tone recordings, controlled question-and-response experiments, walkthroughs, and any investigation where the original audio needs to be preserved for later listening.

What the EVP Recorder Does

The EVP Recorder uses your phone’s microphone to record audio during an active investigation session. The recording continues until you choose to stop it, even if you briefly move to another compatible tool in Paranormal Field Kit.

An on-screen timer shows how long the recording has been running. Investigators can add markers to identify questions, sounds, equipment responses, or moments they want to find quickly during review. Saved recordings remain attached to the EVP session in the investigation history.

How to Record an EVP Session

  1. Open EVP Recorder from the dashboard.
  2. Allow microphone access when Android requests it.
  3. Start a new EVP session and optionally add a case name or location.
  4. Place the phone in a stable position away from clothing, hand movement, fans, and other avoidable noise.
  5. Press Start Recording.
  6. State the date, location, investigators present, and the purpose of the session aloud.
  7. Ask clear questions and leave quiet space between them.
  8. Add a marker when a question is asked or when the team notices a sound, movement, or equipment response.
  9. Stop the recording when the experiment is complete.
  10. Review the audio and its related session timeline.

What EVP Recording Is Used For

EVP recording is commonly used to document audio that may not be fully understood in real time. During review, investigators listen for faint voices, words, knocks, footsteps, movement, environmental sounds, and contamination from team members or outside sources.

The recorder is also useful for documenting the full context of an investigation. A recording may confirm that an apparent voice came from another investigator, a radio, traffic, a nearby room, or an equipment sound. Careful review is as important for ruling out normal causes as it is for identifying moments that deserve further attention.

Mark Important Moments as They Happen

Long recordings become difficult to review when there is no reference point. Markers help investigators return to a specific moment without searching through the entire file.

Use markers for:

  • Questions asked during a controlled EVP session
  • A sound heard by one or more investigators
  • A visual event occurring while the recorder is running
  • Equipment activation
  • A Spirit Messages result
  • A sensor change
  • Someone entering or leaving the room
  • Known contamination such as a cough, whisper, vehicle, or radio

Markers do not replace careful listening, but they create a map of the recording that speeds up review.

Review and Organize EVP Audio

The original audio recording is kept with its session instead of being separated from the case details. Investigators can review recordings from the app, identify associated timeline events, and download individual audio files when they need to share or analyze them elsewhere.

EVP sessions are grouped by investigation date in the session history. This keeps audio from the same night together with field notes, camera media, Spirit Messages, Estes notes, and sensor activity.

Use EVP Recording With Other Tools

An EVP recording can continue while an investigator opens another compatible tool. Use the Investigator Log to document visible or audible events, run Spirit Messages in silent mode, or monitor supported environmental readings in the Sensor Deck.

When more than one tool is active, Live Operations provides a central place to return to each session or stop it.

EVP Recording Tips

  • Use airplane mode when you do not need an internet-based tool.
  • Announce known sounds and movements aloud so they are easier to identify later.
  • Avoid holding or moving the phone during quiet recording periods.
  • Ask one question at a time and leave enough silence for review.
  • Record a short room-tone sample before beginning questions.
  • Use headphones during review, but avoid excessive audio processing that could create misleading artifacts.
  • Keep the unedited original file even if you create enhanced copies for analysis.
